Through the Business Development and Assistance Program, IBA helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to start, acquire and grow commercially viable businesses by providing pre and post business guidance, business finance, business development and business support at all stages of the business life cycle.

 

About the role

The Senior Business Development Officer positions report to the Team Leader (Business Development),  and provide a broad range of business advice to Indigenous entrepreneurs and business owners. This will include developing business and financial proposals as well as preparing commercial credit submissions.

This role will appeal to people who have a high level of financial literacy which is complemented by strong business acumen capabilities. Customer service skills, and high-level communication capability are also foundational for success in this position.

Deep community connections in the Indigenous sector is also a must-have attribute. As a Special Measures classified position, assessment to this attribute will be thorough.

This role will require strong communication within IBA and into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and businesses and you will need to demonstrate:

  • A strong connection to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and community
  • An ability to partner and work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Success in business development
  • A strong entrepreneurial track record.

 

About you

You will have strong ties with Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.

You will be able to show you can work effectively with a range of stakeholders to support the vision and values of IBA. To do this, you will have the following capabilities:

  • Strong leadership capability
  • High level business development skills, including financial and business planning and development
  • Be driven to make a difference in Indigenous communities
  • Excellent communication skills, including report and proposal/business case preparation
  • Customer focus, displaying skills with working with people and their communities particularly in a business context.

You will bring with you a wealth of knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures, and a proven ability to engage with Traditional Owners and build Aboriginal community capacity.

You will also hold a current Driver Licence, and be able to undertake regional and remote travel (sometimes up to 5 consecutive nights).

 

The Selection Criteria
