Established in 1990 and based in Melbourne, ILBIJERRI is the longest running Indigenous theatre company in Australia. Since 1990 we have been initiating and developing performances in collaboration with our community and artists. ILBIJERRI productions have toured nationally and internationally, received critical acclaim and resonated with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences.
The Executive Producer will have shared accountability with the Artistic Director and will report to the ILBIJERRI Board of Directors. As a partnership with the Artistic Director you will be responsible for the outcomes of a team that includes management, production staff, administration staff, project-based artists and freelance crew
The role requires a leader with knowledge and experience of the contemporary performing arts sector, Indigenous performing arts and demonstrated experience in and sensitivity to artists, performers and the creative process. Ideally this includes experience in producing, touring and artist development within an arts organisation. Relevant knowledge and experience within an adjacent field will be accepted.
This role will attract high level strategic thinkers with a strong track record of delivery in the performing arts sector. It requires an experienced leader and collaborator with demonstrable entrepreneurial skills, business acumen and an ability to navigate complexity in a diverse stakeholder environment. Importantly, you will be responsible for securing and managing operational and project funding to deliver ILBIJERRI’s growing program.
As an Executive leader in this Company, you will drive the ILBUJERRI’s strategic plan taking into account business expansion, artistic development, branding and marketing, philanthropy, finance and people. This role is responsible for operations which will include, as a high priority, measurable growth for the organisation.
The role will require a leader that can demonstrate:
Your track record in the artistic sector will frame your headline claims. You will have complementary stand-out leadership skills and a proven track record for operational excellence in the creative and artistic aspects of the Australian community, specifically in the Indigenous sector. You will be able to show you can work effectively across a complex stakeholder landscape to proactively deliver successful performances and tours, all the while building ILBIJERRI’s profile in the artistic sector. To do this, you will have the following high-level capabilities:
You will bring with you a wealth of knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultures, and a proven ability to engage with First Nations people. Your understanding of funding processes, philanthropy and good governance has been gained through working in performing arts (or other relevant and relatable fields) positions in the Australia community.
