Indigenous Community Outreach Officer

Overview of the role

The Indigenous Community Outreach Officer will assist in the development and implementation of outreach and recruitment programs within Ngarara Willim and RMIT. The role will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, schools and communities to build the aspirations, pathways and transition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into RMIT programs.

The Indigenous Community Outreach role does this by building strong purposeful links with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and by working collaboratively and in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

The role will require occasional travel in Victoria and interstate.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Act as a key point of contact to engage and develop relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander potential applicants, students, their families and communities, school staff and school networks.
  • Foster relationships and resources that strengthen the delivery of aspiration-raising programs for secondary school students, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to provide opportunities for young people to explore and experience tertiary environments and taster programs.

About You

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the following areas:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with the proven capacity to draw upon related skills and expertise to deliver programs that are targeted and responsive.
  • Proven planning, organisational, event and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders and partners to achieve defined outcomes.

Qualifications

Desirable:  A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.

Preferred: A current driver’s licence.
