About the organization and the role.

A rare opportunity has arisen to help the pipeline of opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and jobseekers, working at a dynamic new Yarpa Hub established by the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC).

Yarpa, meaning pathway, is Australia’s first hub under the Australian Government’s Indigenous Business Sector Strategy. The Yarpa Industry Relationship & Strategic Manager will lead a team of four and will work closely with the Yarpa leadership team and the NSWALC executive to meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across NSW.

About you

You will be an outstanding communicator, with a strong network of corporate and government contacts and an understanding of how to draw on relationships to deliver outcomes for Aboriginal communities. The successful candidate will work in partnership with government and industry leaders on some of the state’s largest infrastructure projects to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have fair and equitable access to opportunities.

The successful candidate will have a track record in developing and implementing effective procedures and practices, delivering practical outcomes within a tight budget, strong financial management skills, and capability to manage diverse relationships to achieve organisational goals.

Essential Requirements:

  • Aboriginality – this is an identified position under Section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities and organisations to achieve position outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience working with Industry leaders in either construction, transport or large scale development activities
  • Exceptional communication skills with demonstrable ability to form good interpersonal relationships at all levels
  • Demonstrated experience working with or within the Aboriginal business sector
  • Demonstrated experience in the Aboriginal employment/job seeker sector
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving ability including the ability to plan, prioritise, meet deadlines, and deliver results effectively and creatively.
  • Ability to produce insightful, concise written communication suitable for supporting critical decision making
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly and understand their broader implications across all levels
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous business and employment trends and they impact on communities and industries.
  • Strong computer literacy skills – systems an added bonus
  • A highly organised individual who enjoys taking logical, fact-based, approaches to complex problem solving and is comfortable working with statistics and data

 

Desirable:

  • Strong developed networks in the Employment Industry.
  • Experience managing Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems
  • Understanding of political environments of NSW and Commonwealth Governments

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for the Yarpa Hub to execute, across its three primary client cohorts (Indigenous Businesses, Indigenous Job Seekers, Employers/Corporates), to help bridge the gap between demand and supply utilising Yarpa Hub business and employment engagement initiatives.
  • Lead the engagement of industry and corporate organisations to develop an understanding of their procurement and employment needs and assist in fulfilling their Indigenous procurement obligations and aspirations.
  • Engage with government (at all levels) to support the realisation of Indigenous procurement policies and connect Yarpa Hub businesses into major government projects
  • Maintain comprehensive awareness of current government policies and guidelines relating to Indigenous procurement / Indigenous employment and future trajectories
  • Analyse pipelines of future procurement and employment opportunities across NSW
  • Analyse current and projected in-demand employee skill sets and/or business types relevant to priority sectors and communicate these needs with employment provider partners
  • Lead the management and maintenance of the Yarpa Hub Client Relationship Management (CRM) System
  • Work collaboratively with the Director and Yarpa Hub staff to analyse data and develop communication products that reach key demographics to promote the opportunities facilitated through industry relationships.
  • Advocate the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal businesses to Government in order to influence future procurement pathways and initiatives.
