About GLaWAC GLaWAC represents the Traditional Owners from the Brataualung, Brayakaulung, Brabralung, Krauatungalung, and Tatungalung clans, recognised under the Native Title Consent Determination and the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010. GLaWAC is the Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) responsible for joint management of 14 parks and reserves in Victoria and is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) overseeing cultural heritage for the region. With over 600 members, GLaWAC plays a critical role in managing native title agreements, land use negotiations, and cultural heritage preservation.
About the role The CEO of GLaWAC provides strategic direction and operational leadership, overseeing the organisation’s growth, financial sustainability, cultural development, and key initiatives. This role involves guiding GLaWAC through a phase of economic development and expansion while ensuring it remains a leader in Indigenous land and resource management. The CEO will also advocate for the rights and aspirations of the Gunaikurnai people, strengthening the Corporation’s impact and influence. About you You are a strategic and values-driven leader with a strong commitment to Aboriginal governance, cultural heritage, and community empowerment. With executive experience in financial management, business development, and stakeholder engagement, you excel at driving growth, economic self-determination, and organisational sustainability. Skilled in negotiation and advocacy, you build lasting partnerships with government, corporate, and community stakeholders to advance the rights and aspirations of the Gunaikurnai people. Your leadership fosters collaboration, accountability, and cultural integrity, ensuring GLaWAC’s continued impact in land and resource management while championing self-determination and economic development for future generations.
Essential Key Selection Criteria
Minimum 5+ years executive leadership experience, ideally as a CEO or Executive Director.
Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal governance, community aspirations, and cultural heritage with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
Proven financial management expertise, including strategic planning and budget oversight.
Experience in business development and commercial strategy, with a focus on sustainability.
Strong stakeholder management experience, particularly with government, corporate, and Indigenous organisations.
Exceptional public relations, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Knowledge of Gunaikurnai culture, values, and traditions.
Desired Additional Requirements
Knowledge of environmental management, natural resource governance, and cultural site protection.
Previous experience in economic development, treaty negotiations, or large-scale project delivery.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, law, community development, or governance.
