About the role

This role is part-time, four days per week, with full-time leave and benefits included in the contract. While it will start as a maternity leave cover between February and November, our hope is that we will find someone to stay on long-term if both parties work well together.

As Communications Director, you will work closely with the CEO to build strong relationships with clients and the team, to ensure work is delivered to the highest possible standards, and to maintain a positive and flexible working environment for all involved. You will help to develop communications strategies, provide advice with regards to risk mitigation or issues/crises, review and approve communications, including reports, media releases and social media content, and contribute to the development of work when needed.

We have an incredibly strong and kind community of clients and colleagues, so this role will involve a commitment to listening, being engaged in conversations, being thoughtful in your feedback, and applying a level of flexibility that is required when deadlines or commitments evolve. A large portion of our clients are either Indigenous organisations or have a strong First Nations influence. As a result, First Nations candidates are encouraged to apply and any non-Indigenous candidates must demonstrate solid experience

Ideal Candidate

You have a passion for doing good and a knack for telling stories that influence change. You take pride in delivering a high standard of work and the ability to build relationships with a range of different people. You learn fast, think strategically and know how to navigate new or challenging situations. You will have at least eight years’ experience in public relations/ communications, with a proven track record of team and client management, and examples of work you’re proud of. Ideally, you will have experience in or an understanding of Indigenous education, its history, current social and political context, and key players in this space.
