About the role
As the Head of Indigenous Affairs, you will be responsible for implementing Coles Indigenous Affairs strategies and business plans. You will define, initiate, and oversee the governance and execution of all Indigenous Affairs programs, including Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) deliverables. In this role, you will provide expert guidance and coaching to senior and executive leaders, ensuring that strategic decisions are well-informed and aligned with the Indigenous Affairs objectives. Additionally, you will be accountable for overall business engagement with all Indigenous Affairs programs, overseeing and leading the RAP Steering Committee and Working Group. This includes updating relevant stakeholders on targets and initiatives and ensuring active and effective participation in driving meaningful outcomes.

About you
You are a proven leader with extensive management experience, demonstrating the ability to plan strategically, manage a small team effectively, and work collaboratively in a high-performance environment. Your communication skills are exceptional, and you have the authority and influence needed to engage confidently across all levels of the business. This is underpinned by your deep knowledge of Indigenous history, peoples and communities. You are highly organised, with excellent time management and prioritisation abilities, a keen attention to detail, and a demonstrated capability to interpret and analyse data effectively.

Essential Key Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Corporate Affairs, or relevant experience.
  2. Deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, including the social, economic, and historical factors that impact their communities.
  3. Demonstrated experience in leading programs or teams, with a strong ability to drive strategic initiatives, manage complex projects, and deliver outcomes in a corporate setting.
  4. Ability to take accountability for large-scale programs, including anticipating and mitigating risks, managing stakeholder expectations, and ensuring successful project implementation.
  5. Ability to drive innovation, address business challenges creatively, and foster a culture that embraces continuous improvement and forward-thinking practices
