Pipeline Talent is starting a movement for all Australians – creating a recruitment and retention ecosystem for Indigenous executives that will unlock workforce parity.

We are identifying Indigenous executives who would be a major asset to any Australian organisation, because of their talent. The fact that the candidates we place are Indigenous will be a bonus – but we know extra support and high level coaching is required in order to achieve workforce parity, because of the additional challenges Indigenous leaders face.

Australian governments and business are making significant progress with employing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into trainee and entry-level roles. Now it’s time to support Indigenous people to achieve senior roles in business and government on merit.

The talent is there and a new generation of Indigenous leaders are emerging across the economy and community, but with history to overcome and very few role models, they need support to realise and achieve their true potential.

Enabling more Indigenous Australians to reach senior leadership roles is a vital step to build aspiration, hope and respect within Indigenous communities and will play a critical role in helping to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. It is a constructive pathway that will deliver important outcomes for the organisations that senior Indigenous leaders serve and subsequently for the country as a whole.

Pipeline Talent can build skills and knowledge and support talent, but achieving substantial change depends on the commitment of Australians from all walks of life.

There are currently two Indigenous senior executives in Australia’s top 200 ASX companies.
We urge all Australians to pledge their support for 5% of senior roles in business and government to be awarded on merit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by 2025.
